When assigning a specific number to an item in a series in Microsoft Word, you cannot assign a number greater than 8191.

To assign a specific number to an item in a series, do the following:

1. Move the cursor to a point preceding the item in the series you want to assign a specific number.

2. Type the series code name, followed by two colons (::), and then a number one less than the number you want to use.

   For example, type “table::6” (without the quotation marks) if you want the next item in a series of tables with the series code name table: to be number 7.

3. Press F3.

   Word will enclose the series code name in parenthesis, for example, (table::6).

A problem occurs when values larger than 8191 are specified. When a number larger than 8191 is specified, the number that appears after you press F3 will be the number that you entered minus 8192. For example, (table::8) will be displayed after typing table::8200 and pressing F3. The series entry that follows will then appear as the 9th in the series.

A possible workaround to this limitation is as follows:

For example, if a specific series entry of “Table 9201” is desired:

1. Type “table::200” and press F3.
2. Type “Table 9 table:” and press F3.
3. Delete the space between the 9 and the parenthesis.

These steps should allow you to print “Table 9201”.
