Summary:

Some color schemes from the Colors option in the the Control Panel will prevent Excel version 3.00 from displaying the blinking marquee after choosing Copy from the Edit menu or the equivalent keyboard sequence CTRL+INS.

Steps to Reproduce Problem

  1. From Windows 3.00, start the Control Panel.
  2. Select the Color option.
  3. Click Color Palette.
  4. Select Window Background from Screen Element and set it to black.
  5. Select Window Text from Screen Element and set it to cyan (fifth from the left on the second line of Basic Colors selections) and click OK.
  6. Start Excel 3.00.
  7. Select any cell or range of cells and choose Copy from the Edit menu.
  8. Select another cell and you will not see the copy marquee (blinking dotted line).

Microsoft is researching this problem and will post new information here as it becomes available.

Note: This was not a problem in versions of Excel earlier than 3.00.
