Summary:

Word for Windows displays the error message

MS Word Conversion Cannot Write File

when it cannot save a file to disk after it has been converted.

More Information:

This error message occurs after converting a file and trying to save it to a damaged disk or one that does not have enough disk space available.

Steps to Reproduce Error

  1. Open a document in Word for Windows.
  2. From the File menu, choose Save As and choose the Options buttons.
  3. Click the down arrow in the File Format list box to display the list of available formats.
  4. Select one of the formats other than Normal, such as Word for DOS or Windows Write.
  5. Insert a floppy disk that does not have enough bytes free to save the file.
  6. Select the drive letter in the list of Directories in the File Save As dialog box and choose OK.

The conversion process will begin, displaying the percentage of conversion completed as it takes place. When it reaches 100 percent, the error message “MS Word Conversion Cannot Write File” will appear because there is not enough space available to write the file. This message will also occur if the disk is damaged.
