WINDOWS

The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Word for Windows versions 1.1 and 1.1a

Summary:

The following are instructions for exporting an Encapsulated PostScript (EPS) print file from Lotus Freelance Plus versions 3.0 and 3.01. Lotus Freelance Plus versions 2.0, 2.01, 3.0, and 3.01 all have this ability; however, menu options and subsequent steps for exporting an EPS print file from Freelance Plus versions 2.x may differ slightly from those instructions referred to below.

Note: Freelance Plus 3.0 creates EPS print files with a syntax error that violates Adobe EPS specifications and, as a result, prevents Word for Windows from recognizing the file. This is not a Word for Windows problem, but rather a problem with the Lotus Freelance Plus 3.0 EPS writer.

Solution

Loading the EPS file into Word for Windows as text, removing the first character of the first line (a percent sign [%]), and then saving the file again as text will correct this problem and allow Word for Windows to successfully insert the image as a picture.

Steps for Exporting an EPS Print File from Freelance Plus

  1. In the Charts and Drawings module, select Print Options and enter the following information:

    1. In the Device field, press the SPACEBAR key to view device options, and select Apple LaserWriter.

Note: Freelance Plus can have up to five output devices installed at once. If an option is not visible for the Apple LaserWriter, see the information on installing devices in the Freelance Plus reference manual.

    2. In the Read Options From field, choose “current settings” if composing an image that has not yet been saved to disk, or choose “saved file” if the current settings for the file to be exported have already been saved to disk.

    3. In the Output Mode field, press the SPACEBAR key to view output options, and select EPS File.

    4. In the File Path field, enter the desired destination of the EPS print file.

    5. In the File Name field, enter the desired filename with an EPS file extension.

    6. In the Overwrite field, select Yes.

    7. Press F10 or / (slash) when you’re done to save settings and return to the Freelance Plus menu.

  2. Choose Print, Go.

Freelance will now generate an EPS print file in the directory location specified.
