MORE INFORMATION

The footnote pane is first displayed in Word for Windows after choosing Footnote from the Insert menu and then choosing OK. A footnote reference mark is displayed, and text can be typed or pasted into the pane after this mark.

With Show All turned on, another paragraph mark can be viewed after the footnote reference mark. Attempting to delete this mark or type text after the mark results in the error message:

Not a valid action for footnotes

The Paste command is also not available while the insertion point is in this paragraph.
