WINDOWS

The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Project for Windows, versions 1.0, 3.0

SUMMARY

Project for Windows allows up to two decimal places to be copied from Excel for Windows into the Resource Code field in Project. If you try to copy a number with more than two decimal places and paste it into the Resource Code field, then the number is truncated to two decimal places.

MORE INFORMATION

Steps to Reproduce Behavior

  1. From the View menu, choose Resource Sheet.
  2. From the Table menu, choose Define Tables and select New.
  3. Create a table with two fields: ID and Code.
  4. Choose OK and Set.
  5. Minimize Project and start Excel for Windows.
  6. Type the number 1 in the first column, first row.
  7. Type the number 123.456 in the second column, first row.
  8. Highlight the first two cells in the first row.
  9. From the Edit menu, choose Copy.
  10. Minimize Excel and go back to Project.
  11. In Project, choose Paste from the Edit menu.

Note that the number that appears in the Code field in Project is 123.45. You may also notice that if you type the number 123.456 into the code field, the number will be accepted. Project will only accept a two-decimal-place number to be pasted into this field. This limit is by design.

WORKAROUND

To work around this limit, you can format the number as a text value in Excel and then paste it into the Project Code field. Follow the “Steps to Reproduce Behavior” outlined above and replace step 7 with the following step:

Type =“123.456” (with the quotation marks) in the second column, first row

After completing all of the steps, note that 123.456 appears in the Code field without the quotation marks.

Another workaround is to follow “Steps to Reproduce Behavior” outlined above except replace step 10 with “From the File menu, choose Exit.”
