Insufficient Disk Space Message with Setup Program PSS ID Number: Q69613 Article last modified on 02-26-1993 PSS database name: W_eXceL

3.00

WINDOWS

Summary:

While running the Excel 3.00 Setup program from Windows, you may encounter the message “Insufficient Disk Space Available,” even though you have plenty of disk space.

More Information:

Do the following:

  1. Verify that there is enough disk space on both the drive that Excel is being installed on and the drive that Windows is on because the Setup program must write to both of these directories.

  2. If there is sufficient space on these drives, check the Excel Setup disk to see if Setup has created a Windows directory on it. If a Windows directory exists there, this may indicate that Setup was unable to find the Windows directory on the hard drive, which indicates that Windows may have an invalid entry in the path statement of the AUTOEXEC.BAT file.

If the entry is invalid, Excel is unable to find the Windows directory on the hard drive and then creates one on drive A or B (whichever Setup is being run from). After writing files to the disk, Setup runs out of space and returns the message “Insufficient Disk Space Available.”

To correct the problem, correct the Windows entry in the path statement (for example, change “” to “C:”) and run Setup again.
