SUMMARY
The box containing Word version 6.0 and the upgrade announcement sent to registered Word version 5.5 owners, includes information that some Word options can make use of “extended or expanded memory (LIM 3.2 or higher).”
This information could lead to the conclusion that Word 6.0 or 5.5 under DOS can make use of extended memory as well as expanded memory; however, this is not true. Word 6.0 and 5.5 memory management capabilities are unchanged from Word version 5.0; Word can use conventional memory and expanded memory under MS-DOS or PC-DOS operating systems, but not extended memory. Only Word 5.5 (not 6.0) under OS/2 can use extended memory.
