Word: Screening Records to Print for Mail Merge

PSS ID Number: Q62756 Article last modified on 03-07-1997

The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Word for the Macintosh, version 4.0

SUMMARY

Page 80 of the “Reference to Microsoft Word” version 4.0 manual incorrectly states that an IF instruction designed to screen records to print should be placed in the second paragraph of the main document, just below the DATA instruction. Placing the instruction at that position in the document will not work properly.

For the IF instruction to work properly, it must be on the same line as the DATA instruction (the first line of the main document). For example:

<><<IF number<50>><<NEXT>><<ENDIF>>

Note that the IF instruction immediately follows the DATA instruction, and that there are no spaces between the double less-than signs “<<” and double greater-than signs “>>”.
