Problems with MS Paintbrush and Video Seven PM VGA Drivers

ID: Q61594

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Paintbrush for MS-DOS, versions 4.0, 4.01

SUMMARY

If you return to Microsoft Paintbrush 4.0 or 4.01 running in an MS-DOS box, and you have a Video Seven PM super VGA DISPLAY.DLL video driver installed, vertical bars appear in your Paintbrush session.

You can restore parts of the screen by reloading a drawing and pulling down menus. The only way to remove all of the lines is to quit the program and reload it.

MORE INFORMATION

This situation (which does not exist with Paintbrush version 2.0) occurs because Paintbrush 4.0 and 4.01 use some areas of video memory that the original PM VGA restores but the video Seven super VGA drivers do not.

These super VGA drivers include the following 16-color resolutions:

   720 x 540
   600 x 800
   1024 x 768
