Footnotes Mirror Even/Odd Margins with Outside Bar

SUMMARY
When the Outside Bar format is applied to footnotes in a Microsoft Word for the Macintosh version 4.00 document, the outside bar will appear on the outside of each page regardless of whether or not the Mirror Even/Odd Margins option is checked in the Document dialog box on the Format menu.
The Outside Bar command in the Paragraph Borders dialog box on the Format menu is specifically designed to be used in conjunction with the Mirror Even/Odd Margins option found in the Document dialog box (on the Format menu). If the Outside Bar format is applied to the entire document, including the footnotes, when Mirror Even/Odd Margins is unchecked, the following will occur:
- In the main body of text, a bar will placed on the left side of each page.
- In the footnote section, a bar will be placed on the outside of the page. This will alternate, depending on even/odd pages.

This behavior occurs because footnotes assume even/odd pages while the main body of text does not assume even/odd pages.
When a constant left or right side border is desired, use the Custom command in the Paragraph Borders dialog box on the Format menu, and click the border icon in the Paragraph Borders dialog box to indicate the left or right side.
