INPUT() Function Clears the Clipboard in Excel

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Excel for Windows, versions 2.x, 3.0, 4.0, 5.0
  • Microsoft Excel for OS/2, versions 2.2, 3.0

SUMMARY

The INPUT() function in Microsoft Excel clears the Clipboard as soon as it is executed. The following sequence of statements, for example, would cause a macro error at the PASTE() command:

   =COPY()
   =INPUT("prompt",type,"title",default)
   =PASTE()

The correct sequence would be as follows:

   =INPUT("prompt",type,"title",default)
   =COPY()
   =PASTE()

Note: the information above applies to version 5.0 when you use Microsoft Excel version 4.0 macro language.
