Index Entry Leaves Space Between Hyphen and Page Number

PSS ID Number: Q49289 Article last modified on 03-07-1997

  • Microsoft Word for the Macintosh, versions 3.0, 3.01, 3.02, 4.0, 5.0, 5.1 ———————————————————————-

SUMMARY

When creating an index entry in Word that contains a section number or chapter number in addition to a page number, the compiled index produces a space between the hyphen and the page number.

For example, after typing “.i.entry1-;” (without the quotation marks) on the second page of a document, the index produces “entry 1- 2” when compiled. The desired result is “entry 1-2”.

WORKAROUND

The only workaround for the problem is to manually delete the extra space after the index is compiled.
