Word 5.00 Advances Paper One Line Before Printing

SUMMARY

Regarding the top margin, Word Version 4.00 prints differently than Word 5.00. Word 5.00 expects the top of the paper to be at the bottom of the print head, so it automatically advances the paper the amount of the top margin, plus the amount of the line spacing of the first line of the text. This places the print head at the baseline of the first line of text.

For dot-matrix printers, daisy wheel printers, and any printer that uses continuous feed paper, this requires moving the paper back one line (1/6 inch) to achieve the same top margin as in Word 4.00.
