Summary:
In Excel 3.0, the TEXT function will convert numbers to text. The format must be included with this function. If general formatting is required, one of the two methods below must be used. For example, if you have numbers in cells A1 through A10 and you want to convert these numbers to text you may do the following:

Method 1
- Type ="“&A1&”" in B1.
- Select B1:B10 with B1 as the active cell.
- From the Edit menu, choose Fill Down.
- From the Edit menu, choose Copy.
- Select A1.
- From the Edit menu, choose Paste Special.
- Select Values.
- Click OK.
- Delete the B column.
Method 2
- In cell B1, enter the string function RIGHT(A1,10) or LEFT(A1,10). This assumes that 10 is the longest number including the decimal (that is, 1234567.89).
- Follow Steps 2 - 9 above.
