MS-DOS

The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft MS-DOS operating system versions 3.x, 4.00, and 4.01

The maximum amount of data that can be SORTed by the Microsoft MS-DOS SORT filter utility is approximately 63K.

If more than 63K of data needs to be SORTed, the existing file may be split into two or more files that can be SORTed individually. Due to the result being two or more individually sorted files, rather than one complete sorted file, dividing and sorting the original file may not be desirable.
