Line Spacing Changes in Converted Documents

SUMMARY
When a document created in Word versions 3.00, 3.01, 3.02, and earlier is converted to version 4.00, the line spacing may not come across as expected if the lines were formatted as subscript or superscript in the earlier version.
This problem occurs because of a limitation in earlier versions of Word in which Word would not adjust the line spacing of blank superscript and/or subscript lines. Word 4.00, however, gives an accurate representation of the line, including any subscript/superscript formatting applied to the blank lines.
For example, a blank 12-point line is formatted as 3-point superscript in Word 3.0x. When the file is converted to Word 4.00, the blank line is displayed as 15 points in height: the 12-point line height plus the 3-point superscript.
If you do not want the line spacing to increase, do the following to correct this situation:
- Select the blank lines that are formatted as superscript or subscript.
- From the Format menu, choose Plain Text.
