SUMMARY

In Microsoft Word for MS-DOS, the footnote separator bar extends into the next column when you follow the procedure below:

  1. Create a Word document in which the document contains a page with both one-column and four-column text on the same page.
  2. Create a footnote in the four-column text.
  3. Format the footnote to print on the same page.
  4. From the File menu, choose Print Preview or preView.

This problem occurs with a one-column division followed by a three-or-more columns division formatted for continuous division break and same-page footnotes.

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Word versions 5.0. This problem was corrected in version 5.5 of Word for MS-DOS.
