SUMMARY
Microsoft Word for DOS versions 4.0 and 5.0 save files as unformatted (ASCII) text and do not prompt you to confirm the loss of formatting if you do the following:
- Load an ASCII text file into Word.
- Merge in a formatted document.
- Save the file.
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Word versions 4.0 and 5.0. This problem was corrected in Word version 5.5.
