SUMMARY

Because laser printers are page-oriented devices, when setting up mailing labels, a full page of information must be described before sending that information and a page break to the printer. Most laser printers interpret division breaks as page breaks, even if those breaks are formatted as Continuous or Column.

Printers with sheet feeders also need to have a full page of information sent to it. Similar to laser printers, these printers cannot incrementally adjust the size of a page; therefore, the printer sees each page break as a form feed. This means you must have a copy of the label block, for each label that is going to be printed. If the labels stickers are 1-inch high, you must be sure there are six lines to each label block.

MORE INFORMATION

If each sheet of labels has 30 label stickers in three columns of 10 stickers, you would insert 30 copies of the label block in your document (no division breaks except at the end) and format the document for three columns using the Format Division Layout Command.

For further information on adjusting the page margins, refer to Pages 266-275 of the “Microsoft Word: Using Microsoft Word” manual.

For the example cited above, your main document would appear as follows (page down to see this entire example):

<><<name>> <<street>> <<city>>, <<state>> <<zip>>

<<next>><<name>> <<street>> <<city>>, <<state>> <<zip>>

. . .

<<next>><<name>> <<street>> <<city>>, <<state>> <<zip>> ::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
