3.x 4.00

MS-DOS

The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft MS-DOS operating system versions 3.x and 4.0

Summary:

When loading HIMEM.SYS after other extended-memory drivers have allocated all but EXACTLY 64K of extended memory for HIMEM.SYS to use (for the High Memory Area), HIMEM.SYS Version 2.02 erroneously reports the following:

WARNING: The High Memory Area is unavailable

This warning message is not correct; HIMEM does allocate the high-memory area if an application requests it.

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem with HIMEM.SYS version 2.02. This problem was corrected in version 2.03.
