SYMPTOMS
When you try to use in Windows XP a shortcut to an item that is located on a mapped drive on a computer that is running Microsoft Windows 95 or Microsoft Windows 98, you may receive the following error message:
You also receive an option to delete the shortcut. The same shortcut works correctly in Microsoft Windows 2000.

WORKAROUND
To work around this problem, create shortcuts to items on computers that are running Windows 95 or Windows 98 by using the network drive directly (instead of mapping the drive).
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was first corrected in Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2.
