FIX: You Receive an Exception Error While Establishing a PPTP Connection

SYMPTOMS

At the beginning of a point-to-point tunneling protocol (PPTP) connection session, during the protocol negotiation phase, the Microsoft Windows CE client may generate an unexpected exception error and may not connect.

CAUSE

During the protocol negotiation phase at the beginning of a PPTP session, a malformed buffer may cause the server to generate an exception.

RESOLUTION

A supported software update is now available from Microsoft as Windows CE 4.1 Core OS QFE 330496. To resolve this problem immediately, click the following article number for information about obtaining Windows CE Platform Builder and core operating system software updates:
