SYMPTOMS

When you are connected to a Windows 2000-based Terminal Server and you try to log off, you may receive the following error message, and your roaming profile is not saved:

Event ID: 1000
Event Type: Error
Event Source: Userenv
Event Category: None
Description: Windows cannot unload your registry file. If you have a roaming profile, your settings are not replicated. Contact your administrator.

DETAIL: Access is denied.

CAUSE

This problem occurs if the following conditions are true:

  • You are use a Windows 2000-based computer to connect to a Windows 2000-based Terminal Server.
  • Your Windows 2000-based Terminal Server runs Citrix MetaFrame version 1.8, which is configured in a load-balanced server farm.
  • Your Windows 2000-based Terminal Server uses an antivirus program or a backup program that is not compatible with the Citrix software. For example, this is a known problem with Symantec Norton AntiVirus Corporate Edition version 7.5.

To work around this problem, disable or remove the antivirus program or the backup program.
