SYMPTOMS
After you install Windows XP, you may be notified that Windows has detected a new network device. This occurs the first time that the computer enters standby and then resumes.
CAUSE
Windows looks for the first device arrival notification. The first time that Windows receives this notification is after you resume the computer from standby.

STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was first corrected in Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2.
MORE INFORMATION
Before you install this hotfix, you receive notification if you insert a new network adapter in the computer. After you install the hotfix, Netshell no longer listens for Plug and Play device arrival notifications. Therefore, you are not notified about new devices.
