SYMPTOMS

When you try to log on to your mailbox by using Microsoft Outlook Web Access (OWA) and by specifying your user account alias in the Universal Resource Locator (URL) to the Exchange server, you may receive the following error message:

The page cannot be found

The page you are looking for might have been removed, had its name changed, or is temporarily unavailable.

Please try the following:

If you typed the page address in the Address bar, make sure

that it is spelled correctly.

Open the server.example.com home page, and then look

for links to the information you want.

Click the Back button to try another link.

For example, you might type http://server.example.com/exchange/username to specify your user account alias in the URL to the Exchange server.

CAUSE

This behavior may occur if your user account alias is different than your Microsoft Exchange e-mail proxy address. Exchange 2000 Server uses the values in the proxyAddresses attribute of the user object, and then compares them against the domain and the virtual directory to find a match with a unique object in the directory.

WORKAROUND

To work around this behavior, type the e-mail alias in the URL to the Exchange server when you use OWA to log on to your mailbox.

To determine the e-mail address of a user account, view the properties of that user in the Active Directory Users and Computers snap-in. The e-mail address is displayed on the General tab in the E-mail box.

To determine the default e-mail proxy address that is generated by Exchange 2000 Server:

Start the Exchange System Manager snap in.
Expand Recipients, and then click Recipient Policies.
In the right pane, double-click Default Policy, and then click the E-Mail Addresses (Policy) tab.
Under Generation rules, double-click the primary (bold) SMTP address.
In the Address box, note the configuration parameters (if any) that appear before the at character (@). For example, %s.%g.

These parameters are used to generate the recipient e-mail address that is based on user account information. For example, the %s.%g@example.com parameter causes Exchange 2000 Server to generate the following e-mail address:

surname.givenname@example.com

STATUS

This behavior is by design.

Alias is not a unique attribute. A user's Exchange alias is not used for the path to the mailbox.
