SYMPTOMS

In Windows XP, when you quit Microsoft Internet Explorer, you may receive an Access Violation error message.

CAUSE

This problem may occur when the Use automatic configuration script option is turned on and the Address box contains the path of the Iadstools.dll file that is installed from the Microsoft Windows 2000 Service Pack 3 (SP3) Support Tools.

Note To locate the Use automatic configuration script option, click Internet Options on the Tools menu, and then on the Connections tab, click LAN Settings.

A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was first corrected in Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2.
