SYMPTOMS

When you use the Word 2000 Send To Mail Recipient command to send a protected Word 2000 form, Word 2000 may stop responding (hang).

CAUSE

This problem may occur if the Microsoft Outlook "Always check spelling before sending" feature is enabled. To determine if this option is enabled:

  1. Start Outlook.
  2. On the Tools menu, click Options.
  3. Click the Spelling tab.


RESOLUTION

A supported fix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Apply it only to computers that are experiencing this specific problem. This fix may receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, Microsoft recommends that you wait for the next Office 2000 service pack that contains this hotfix.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, use any of the following methods:

  • Save the document as a file, quit Word 2000, create a new e-mail message, and then attach the protected document.
  • Turn off the Outlook "Always check spelling before sending" feature.
  • Unprotect the document before you send it.

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
