SYMPTOMS
If you are using a mailbox that has a quota and you receive a recurring appointment that has an attachment, if you view the appointment by using the Microsoft Outlook Web Access (OWA) calendar monthly view or another Collaboration Data Objects (CDO) program that causes instance expansion, the mailbox size increases. When this behavior occurs, the mailbox quota may be exceeded.
CAUSE
If a recurring appointment is expanded by a CDO program, the size of the item counts against the storage quota for each of the instances of the appointment that have been expanded (the appointment master instance is only counted one time). CDO expansion occurs when you view the appointment from the OWA calendar or if you view the appointment directly by using CDO manipulation.
If you use the monthly calendar to view a recurring weekly appointment that has a 50-kilobyte (KB) attachment, quota use increases from 50 KB for the master appointment instance to several hundred KBs, even though the actual size of the message in the information store has not changed.
