SYMPTOMS
When you open user objects in the Active Directory Users and Computers snap-in, queries with a name that is not valid may be sent to the DNS server. You can see these queries in a Network Monitor trace. This problem may occur if you are running the Active Directory Users and Computers snap-in on a computer that does not point to itself for DNS resolution.
The incorrect name is the fully qualified domain name (FQDN) of the domain controller at which the snap-in is pointed used as a domain name. For example, if your domain controller is named name1.name2.contoso.com, the DNS query is for the name "_ldap._tcp.dc._msdcs.name1.name2.contoso.com."
CAUSE
When the dialog box is populated with the standard information from the domain controller at which the snap-in is pointed, ADS_SERVER_BIND is not specified when the connection is made. For additional information, click the article number below to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:
