SYMPTOMS

When you try to open an existing workbook in Microsoft Excel, the workbook does not appear. The Name Box may display a cell reference. However, the workbook is not visible.

If you click Print Preview on the File menu, the workbook appears as expected.

CAUSE

This issue may occur if you have the window arrangement set so that the coordinates of the workbook window are beyond the coordinates of the viewable area.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, change the window arrangement setting. To do this, follow these steps:

  1. On the Window menu, click Arrange.
  2. Click Tiled, and then click OK.
  3. On the File menu, click Save.
  4. Close the workbook, and then reopen it.

The workbook is now viewable in the Excel window.
