SYMPTOMS

When you print Calendar information to a Xerox printer, Outlook may stop unexpectedly and you may receive the following error message:

There was an error when printing started. To check the printer setup, double-click the Printers icon in Windows Control Panel.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because Outlook has an extra handle open to a Device Context that it does not require. This extra handle blocks the Xerox printer driver from making calls that are required. The hotfix that is described in this article removes the extra handle.

RESOLUTION

Service pack information

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was first corrected in Office XP Service Pack 3.

MORE INFORMATION

This problem has only been observed when files are printed to a Xerox Document Center printer, versions 420 PS and 440 PS, that has the Accounting feature turned on. This problem might also occur with other Xerox printers.
