FIX: High Critical Section Contention in MSWSTR10.dll under Stress

SYMPTOMS

You might experience slow performance or high CPU utilization, or the system may stop responding. If you attach a debugger to the process, or you load a user dump file in a debugger with correct symbol files setup, you might experience high critical section contention. The following is an example:

RESOLUTION

A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Only apply it to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix may receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next MDAC 2.6/2.7 service pack that contains this fix.
