You can configure Microsoft Office to block linked Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP) images that are placed in Office documents as an added security feature in Microsoft Office XP. This article describes how to configure Office XP to block linked HTTP images in Office XP documents.

After you apply Office XP SP-2, follow these steps to configure the BlockHTTPImages registry key.
WARNING: If you use Registry Editor incorrectly, you may cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that you can solve problems that result from using Registry Editor incorrectly. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.
- Quit Outlook 2002.
- Click Start, and then click Run.
- In the Open box, type regedit, and then click OK.
- Locate and then click the following registry key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\10.0\Common
The following is the corresponding policy key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Office\10.0\Common
- On the Edit menu, click New, and then click DWORD Value.
- Type the following name for the new value:
BlockHTTPImages
- Press the ENTER key.
- In the Value data box, type 1, and then click OK.
- Quit Registry Editor.
- Restart your computer.
NOTE: When you turn on the BlockHTTPImages registry key, Office may block more then just linked HTTP images.
