SYMPTOMS
Dynamic Update may not be prepared on computers that are running Microsoft Windows 98 or Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition (Me) when you run Winnt32.exe with the /duprepare switch. Because of this, Dynamic Update fixes are not applied to client computers that are installed by using the shared Dynamic Update package.
CAUSE
You ran Winnt32.exe from a network share to create a Dynamic Update version 1.3 or later package.
This problem does not occur if the preparation is completed from a Windows XP CD-ROM or on a computer that is running Microsoft Windows NT, Microsoft Windows 2000, or Windows XP.
RESOLUTION
To work around this problem, either use a Windows NT, Windows 2000, or Windows XP computer to prepare the Dynamic Update 1.3 or later package, or add the /nodownload switch to the command line that is used to prepare the package on Windows 98 or Windows Me. For example, you might use the Winnt32 /duprepare:path
/nodownload command.
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
