SYMPTOMS

When you run Exchange 2000, the following error message may be logged:

Event Type: Error
Event Source: MSExchangeSA
Event Category: General
Event ID: 5004
Description:
Generation of the offline Address Book is complete. Result: The MAPI call failed. MAPI or an unspecified service provider. ID no: 80004005-0000-00000000

You may also receive other MAPI related errors. After this event occurs, you cannot run the Admin program on the server, although you can run the Admin program remotely. You also cannot run ExMerge on the server, and offline Address Book generation fails. Antivirus software that uses MAPI may also be affected.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because the MAPI Global Heap has been used up.
