SYMPTOMS

When a client prints a document that contains Type 1 Fonts, the font may be missing from the print job. The problem occurs when the Enable advanced printing features check box is selected, and the print server does not have the font installed.

CAUSE

When a font that is made up of two or more files (like an Adobe Type 1) is read from the spool file, the section pointer and base address are only set on the first file. The original code expected these values to be set on each font file.

RESOLUTION

A supported fix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. The English version of this fix has the file attributes (or later) that are listed in the following table. The dates and times for these files are listed in coordinated universal time (UTC). When you view the file information, it is converted to local time. To find the difference between UTC and local time, use the Time Zone tab in the Date and Time tool in Control Panel.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, click to clear the Enable advanced printing features check box on the client. This renders the print job on the client side, and then sends the print job in "RAW" format.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was first corrected in Microsoft Windows 2000 Service Pack 4.
