Session Summary

The routing and transport components in Microsoft Exchange underwent major changes in the upgrade from Exchange Server 5.5. Most messaging professionals are not familiar with the new methods for troubleshooting mail delivery problems in Exchange 2000. In this session, we will quickly review mail flow through the Exchange 2000 routing engine and SMTP transport. The bulk of the presentation will be spent introducing new and improved troubleshooting tools, and reviewing case studies of how these tools are used to isolate and resolve mail delivery problems.

This is a Level 300 session that was recorded February 22, 2001 and presented by Tom Jones and Shane Davenport.

Tom Jones has had nearly eight years of messaging experience, including Exchange Server, GroupWise, cc:Mail, Lotus Notes, and MS Mail. His specialty has been standards-based connectivity such as X.400 and SMTP. Tom has worked with Microsoft in Product Support Services for more than three and one-half years.

Shane Davenport is a technical lead in the Microsoft Exchange Connectors specialty group in Microsoft Product Support Services. He has supported Exchange Server for nearly four years, and prior to that, had worked as a Novell GroupWise escalation engineer for two years. Shane's specialties are Message Transfer Agent (MTA) and routing.
