SYMPTOMS

When you try to install SharePoint Team Services on a Web site that has a previously installed version of Microsoft FrontPage Server Extensions, you receive an error message similar to the following

Could not provision SharePoint based website on Website_Name

where Website_Name is the name of the Web site that you are trying to upgrade.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, change the execute permissions of the Web site to the Scripts only option. To do this, follow these steps:

  1. Click Start, point to Programs, point to Administrative Tools, and then click Internet Services Manager.
  2. Expand the server on which the Web site is located.
  3. Locate the Web site, right-click it, and then click Properties.
  4. Click the Home Directory tab.
  5. In the Execute Permissions box under Application Settings, click Scripts only, and then click OK.
  6. In the Inheritance Overrides box, do not override the permissions for _vti_bin.
  7. Click OK.
