SUMMARY
If you install Apache in Windows, you can migrate your Web sites to Windows without worrying about Internet Information Services (IIS) compatibility issues. If you use Apache as a basis for your migration, IIS and Apache can run simultaneously while serving the same pages during the migration process. This article describes how to install Apache.

Obtaining Apache for Windows
Apache for Windows is available as a standard Windows installer. You can also download the source code for Apache; however, if you do so, you must compile and build the program before you use it. To download Apache, visit the following Apache Web site:
Installing Apache for Windows
To install Apache for Windows:
- Double-click the installer package that you downloaded, and then click Next after the installer package starts.
- If you agree with the terms of the license agreement, click I accept the terms in the license agreement if you agree to the terms, and then click Next.
If you click I do not accept the terms in the license agreement, you cannot continue the installation.
- Read the installation and documentation notes, and then click Next.
- Type the Internet domain for your server in the Network Domain box, type the address or the name of the server in the Server Name box, and then type the e-mail address of the person responsible for the server in the Administrator's E-mail Address box.
- Click one of the following settings to select the type of server that you want to use, and then click Next:
- Run as a service for All Users -- Recommended: Click this setting if you want to create a Web server that is accessible to everybody as a service that is automatically started on the standard HTTP port 80.
- Run when started manually, only for me: Click this setting to create a server only for the current user on port 8080 (the user has to start the service manually).
- Click one of the following settings to select the level of installation, and then click Next:
- Complete installation: If you click this setting, the installation includes everything you must have to run an Apache-based Web server.
- Custom installation: If you click this setting, you can select the elements of the Apache installation that you want to include in the installation.
- If you clicked Custom installation, select the elements of Apache that you want install, and then click Next.
To change the installation folder, click Change, and then select the appropriate folder.
- If you clicked Complete installation, click Change to select a folder that is different from the default installation folder, and then click Next to continue.
- Click Install to start the installation.
- Click Finish after the isntallation is complete.
