SYMPTOMS

If you turn on the CrashOnAuditFail option, Windows XP may stop responding (hang) with stop code 0xC0000244 during the startup process.

CAUSE

This problem occurs if you turn on the CrashOnAuditFail option and you are auditing for policy changes.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Windows XP. For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:
