Cannot save a document to multiple floppy disks in Word

SYMPTOMS

When you try to save copies of a Microsoft Word document to multiple floppy disks, you may receive the following error messages on the second and subsequent attempts to save:

Word cannot complete the save due to a file permission error.
(Path and FileName)

When you try to save again, you may receive the following error message:

Check the drive to make sure the door is closed and it contains the correct disk or CD.

WORKAROUND

To work around this behavior, follow these steps:

  1. Open the original Word document that you want to save to multiple floppy disks.
  2. On the File menu, click Save As.
  3. In the Save As dialog box, click Desktop in the Save in list box, and then click Save.
  4. On the File menu in Word, click Close to close the Word document.
  5. Place the first floppy disk in the floppy drive.
  6. Minimize all windows.
  7. On the desktop, right-click the document that you saved in steps 2 through 3, point to Send To on the shortcut menu, and then click 3 1/2 Floppy (A:).
  8. When the document is saved, replace the floppy disk in the drive with the next disk, and then repeat steps 5 through 7.
