SYMPTOMS

When you try to install Microsoft Streets & Trips, you may receive an error message that resembles the following:

Streets & Trips has generated error 1714, an older version of Streets & Trips has been detected.

CAUSE

This problem may occur if an earlier version of Streets & Trips is still installed on the computer, or if files remain from an earlier version of Streets & Trips that has been removed.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, install and run the Microsoft Windows Install Cleanup utility to remove the earlier version of Streets & Trips, and then install Streets & Trips. To do this, follow these steps.

Part 1: Install the Windows Install Cleanup Utility

Part 2: Remove any earlier versions of Streets & Trips

  1. Click Start, point to Programs, and then click the shortcut for the Windows Install Cleanup utility.
  2. On the list of installed programs, click Streets & Trips, and then click Remove.
  3. When the removal process is complete, click Exit.

Part 3: Install Streets & Trips

Note Because there are several versions of Microsoft Windows, the following steps may be different on your computer. If they are, see your product documentation to complete these steps.

  1. Insert the Streets & Trips CD in your CD or DVD drive.
  2. Use one of the following methods:
    • If the installation process starts automatically, go to step 6.
    • If the process does not start automatically, continue with the next step.
  3. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
  4. Double-click Add/Remove Programs.
  5. Click the Install/Uninstall tab, and then click Install/Uninstall.
  6. Follow the instructions that appear on the screen to complete the installation process.
