SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Excel X for Mac, you may experience one or more of the following behaviors:

  • When you click Print, nothing happens.
  • When you print a worksheet, the resulting page is blank. However, the document may still preview correctly.
  • When you click Print Preview, or when you click Quick Preview in the Print box in the Microsoft Excel 2004 for Mac view, the the preview is blank.
  • When you click the Margins tab in the Page Setup dialog box, you receive the following error message:

Enter a different value. Your entry cannot be used. Try entering an integer or decimal number.

This behavior may occur if the Print Quality setting is not set to High in the Page Setup options. This behavior can also occur if you have opened a document that that contains incorrect printer information. For example, you may be using new drivers for your printer that are specifically designed for Mac OS X, and the document has previously been printed by using an older version of the printer drivers that are not designed for use with Mac OS X.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, follow these steps.

Step 1: Set Print Quality to High

  1. On the File menu, click Page Setup, and then click the Page tab.
  2. In the Print Quality box, click High.

NOTE: The items on the Page tab in the Page Setup dialog box apply to the active worksheet only. Printer and page settings may vary for different sheets in a workbook.

Step 2: Copy the Worksheet to a New Workbook

If the issue still occurs after you set the Print Quality setting to High, follow these steps:

  1. With the worksheet open, press COMMAND+A, and then click Copy on the Edit menu.
  2. Open a new workbook, and then click Paste on the Edit menu.

The new workbook now has the correct new printer information.

NOTE: If you have multiple worksheets in your workbook, you have to copy each worksheet, one at a time.
