SYMPTOMS
When text is retrieved from a RichEdit text control, some carriage return/linefeed character combinations (also known as CR-LF, or 0x0D,0x0A in hexadecimal) may be replaced by "CR-CR-LF" or 0x0D,0x0D,0x0A.
CAUSE
The RichEdit text control reads its content in blocks of 2,048 characters. If a CR-LF combination spans the boundary between two blocks, an extra CR (0x0D) is inserted.

STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was first corrected in Windows XP Service Pack 1 and Windows 2000 Service Pack 4.
