SYMPTOMS
In Exchange 2000 Server, if you sort items (Group by, Order by) that use Japanese Hiragana characters, full-width Katakana characters, or half-width Katakana characters, the results may be displayed incorrectly in the Exchange 2000 Installable File System (IFS).
NOTE: Exchange 2000 Server displays all of the items correctly, including Japanese Hiragana characters, full-width Katakana characters, and half-width Katakana characters, when the items are not sorted.
CAUSE
This problem occurs because Exchange 2000 Server sorts Japanese Kana type (Hiragana or Katakana) and width type (single-byte character set [SBCS] or double-byte character set [DBCS]) incorrectly in Exchange 2000 IFS.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server. For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

NOTE: Because of file dependencies, this update requires Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server Service Pack 2.
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server. This problem was first corrected in Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server Service Pack 3.
