SYMPTOMS
The Microsoft Exchange information store logs event ID 2024 repeatedly in the Application event log.
Event Type: Error Event Source: MSExchangeIS Mailbox Store Event Category: MTA Connections Event ID: 2024 Date: 3/2/2002 Time: 4:24:35 PM User: N/A Computer: <Computername> Description: Unable to access the object manager (OM) object from the Microsoft Exchange MTA for MH_T_MTS_IDENTIFIER, MH_T_EXTERNAL_TRACE_INFO, MH_T_EXPANSION_HISTORY.
Exchange System Manager also shows a backlog in the X.400 queue to one or more local storage groups.
CAUSE
A corrupted message at the head of queue blocks delivery for that queue.

STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server. This problem was first corrected in Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server Service Pack 3.
MORE INFORMATION
In cases where the processing of the message content causes an error (InvalidContent, VersionMismatch, and SyntaxError), the message is deleted from the queue and an event is logged in the Application event log. Deleting the message unblocks the queue and allows message delivery to occur.
A Warning event ID 2092 similar to the following is logged in the Application event log:
Event Type: Warning Event Source: MSExchangeIS Mailbox Store Event Category: MTA Connections Event ID: 2092 Date: 3/2/2002 Time: 4:24:35 PM User: N/A Computer: <Computername> Description: A corrupted message was received from the MTA and a non-delivery report cannot be generated - it has been removed from the Transfer-In queue. Error %1.
