SYMPTOMS
For these versions of Windows Media Player, you cannot turn off password caching as you can with Internet Explorer.
Password caching works as follows:
- In Internet Explorer, when you try to view a password-protected site, you are prompted to type your security credentials in the Enter Network Password dialog box.
- In this dialog box, if you select the Save this password in your password list check box, your computer saves your password so you do not have to type the password again when you try to use the same document.
Although Windows Media Player has this feature, for the versions of the player listed in this article, you cannot turn off password caching as you can with Internet Explorer. For additional information, click the article number below to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

NOTE: Additionally, the versions of Windows Media Player listed in this article do not recognize Internet Explorer browser settings.
CAUSE
This feature was not implemented in versions of Windows Media Player earlier than version 7.1.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this behavior, upgrade to Windows Media Player version 7.1 or later.
