The SharePoint Portal Server Extranet Configuration utility (Spsconfig.wsf) provides SharePoint Portal Server administrators with the ability to expose a SharePoint Portal Server workspace by means of a fully qualified domain name (FQDN), for either internal (intranet) or external (Internet) use. In the latter scenario, you may want to expose multiple SharePoint Portal Server workspaces while maintaining a consistent namespace, (for example, a domain name - www.example.com). This procedure permits users to just locate a consistent namespace, while allowing access to each of the workspaces, such as the following:

http://www.example.com/workspace2
http://www.example.com/workspace3
The following steps outline the process to expose multiple workspaces for external (Internet) use:
- Download and extract the Spsconfig.wsf configuration utility. To do so, click the following Microsoft link:
- To run the Spsconfig.wsf utility, double-click Spsconfig.wsf. The first screen displays helpful user information.
NOTE: To use the tool from a command line and omit the user interface, type spsconfig.wsf -help, and then follow the instructions. - Click Continue, and then in the Enter Site Configurations dialog box, configure the following options:
- Web Site Host Name: Type your FQDN, for example, www.
example.com. - Workspaces: Select all of the applicable workspaces that you want to expose to the Internet.
- Authentication Configuration: Select the appropriate level of security.
- Proxy Server Port: Use the default settings.
- Web Site Host Name: Type your FQDN, for example, www.
- Click Perform Configuration.
NOTE: At this stage of the procedure, the configuration is complete. A list of the tasks that the utility has completed and a check list of the tasks that must be completed by the SharePoint administrator is displayed. - Click Validate Configuration.
- Click View Workspace.
One of the workspaces that you select is displayed. To access another workspace, change the address in the browser to the appropriate virtual directory, (for example: /workspace2, /workspace3), and you are connected to the other SharePoint Portal Server workspace.
