SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to play Microsoft Flight Simulator 2002, you may experience any one of the following issues if you use a CH Flight Yoke or CH Virtual Pilot Pro:

  • When you launch a new flight, the plane pulls to right or left immediately after the cockpit is loaded.
  • The toe brakes may be extremely sensitive, and you cannot release the parking brake.
  • The throttle controls do not work.

CAUSE

This issue can be caused by outdated or incorrectly configured CH driver software.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, use one of the following methods.

Method 1: Manually set up CH Pro Pedals USB

To manually set up CH Pro Pedals USB, follow these steps:

  1. Start Flight Simulator 2002.
  2. Click Settings, click Control Assignments, and then click the Joystick Axes tab.
  3. In the Joystick type box, click CH Pro Pedals USB.

Note On some computers, this option may be named HID 3 axis, 1 button controller.

  1. Delete all assignments until all the axes are empty.

Note Some assignments may already be empty.

  1. Click Rudder axis, and then click Change Assignment.
  2. Very carefully using only your heels, move the rudder pedals back and forth. You should now see Axis Z.
  3. Click OK (the green check mark).
  4. Click Left Toe Brake axis, and then click Change Assignment.
  5. Very carefully using only your left toes, press the left toe brake down and then release it. You should now see Axis X.
  6. Click OK (the green check mark).
  7. Click to select the Reverse check box to the right of the axis listing.
  8. Click Right Toe Brake axis, and then click Change Assignment.
  9. Very carefully using only your right toes, press the right toe brake down and then release it. You should now see Axis Y.
  10. Click OK (the green check mark).
  11. Click to select the Reverse check box to the right of the axis listing.

If you accidentally move the wrong axis, the wrong listing may appear in the dialog box. If you move the wrong axis, click to clear the Reverse check box that you had incorrectly clicked. Then, try again until the correct axis is displayed in the dialog box. Additionally, make sure that you turn off Auto-rudder . To turn off Auto-rudder, follow these steps:

  1. Start a new flight in Flight Simulator.
  2. On the Aircraft menu, click Realism Settings.
  3. Under Flight controls, click to clear the Auto-rudder check box.
  4. Click OK (the green check mark).

Method 2: Update CH Products software

To use this method, update CH Products software, calibrate your yoke and pedals, and then rebuild the Fs2002.cfg file. To do this, follow these steps:

Update CH Products software

Connect to the following CH Web site to download the newest version of CH Products software:

Calibrate the yoke and pedals

If you use a digital Microsoft SideWinder game controller with Microsoft SideWinder Game Device software version 2.0 or later or Microsoft SideWinder Game Controller software, the software calibrates the game controller automatically.

To use Microsoft SideWinder Game Device software version 2.0 to test the calibration for your digital SideWinder game controller, follow these steps:

  1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
  2. Double-click Game Controllers.
  3. On the Test tab, test all of the functions for your digital SideWinder game controller, and then click OK.
  4. Close Control Panel.

Rebuild the Fs2002.cfg file

To rebuild the Fs2002.cfg file, press and hold down CTRL+SHIFT as you start Flight Simulator and start a new flight. Continue to hold down CTRL+SHIFT until the game is in Cockpit view.

Note When you rebuild the Fs2002.cfg file, some of your joystick settings may change.

If your game controller is installed properly and the Devices.cfg file contains the default settings for your game controller, Flight Simulator 2002 adds the appropriate entries for your game controller to the Fs2002.cfg file.

The Devices.cfg file contains the following joystick headings:

To enable the rudder settings, click to select the Rudder check box on the Settings tab in the Game Controllers tool in Control Panel.

Note If your game controller is not defined in the Devices.cfg file, Flight Simulator 2002 may not assign any actions to the buttons on your game controller.
